The Union has expanded active case finding in priority districts of Harare, Zimbabwe, through state-of-the-art mobile screening trucks that enable teams to provide results of TB tests quickly and ensure that those diagnosed are referred for treatment and care.
The trucks are equipped with digital X-ray machines and a laboratory unit with GeneXpert machines. Staff also provide screening for HIV and diabetes, common co-morbid conditions. The Union conducted staff training in the proper use of all the equipment and were coached on safety precautions and other measures necessary for the successful operation of the screening trucks.
The trucks were procured through Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Health and Child Care with funding and support from the Global Fund and USAID.
33,000 people were reached with TB information and screening and 418 people were diagnosed with TB using the mobile screening trucks.
